My dog and I were taking a wonderful late afternoon walk on a country road in Utah near Bryce Canyon. The weather was warm with a slight breeze. I had my camera with me hoping to catch a few interesting birds in the trees along the road. As I looked down the road, I saw what I thought was a deer in the meadow eating grass. As I continued down the road the “deer” walked toward the road in a diagonal line. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Being adventurous at the moment, we continued down the road. Soon the “deer” , actually became an antelope with closer inspection with my 400 lens. I continue toward the animal…To my amazement, when the deer saw us, he didn’t run, but kept his eyes on us. He came toward us slowly and steadily. I dropped the range of my camera to 100 feet….He still came toward us…Then I heard him , Hiss….Oh my…was I in trouble with a frustrated antelope? My natural instinct was to call out, “NO!”, which I did…The antelope listened and then ran off into the field….As I turned and walked back in the opposite direction, I could see the antelope join a few others…He must have been the great protector for the herd…Don’t you just love nature….beautiful..
