Here are a few photos of a great surfing spot in Southern California. It is located in San Onofre, Ca. It is called Trestles and it is a state park at this time. Surfers come from near and far to surf here. I understand that is it is a favorite spot for the surfers, especially in the summer.
The water temperature was about 57 degrees so you see a lot of wetsuits on. The waves are fantastic for all surfers…both young and old, experienced and just learning levels of surfing.
Surfers walk, ride bikes, and skateboard to get to this surfing spot. No cars are allowed. Some people are very inventive with their transportation as the bike photo with surfboard holder in back of the bike shows. One must cross the railroad tracks to get to the beach which is a concern for the state park.
Trestles is being threatened at this time. There is a group called safetrestles.com that is trying to save this popular surfing area which is being threaten by safety (crossing railroad tracks to get to the park ), environmental issues, and conservation concerns. Hopefully, things can be worked out so everyone can continue to enjoy this wonderful spot. It really is a treasure that needs to be saved for future generations to enjoy….Too many spots have been taken away from the public as it is. Save Trestles!
