I was delighted to be able to attend a few of the wonderful workshops offered at the Morro Bay Bird Festival in Morro Bay, California. The festival was located right on the beach in the quaint little town of Morro Bay. It turns out, this area is a haven for winter birds, elephant seals, and outdoor living with plenty of places to visit, hike to or sightsee…Of course, I couldn’t resist taking a few snap shots of local color which I will share with you…I highly recommend a visit here if you get the chance…The temperature was delightful in the 60’s and 70’s which is not bad in the winter…
I had the good fortune to take a workshop from a flickr member, Linda Tanner (“goingslo” is her flickr name if you are interested in viewing her beautiful work on flickr.com). She showed us several “Hot Spots” for birding, which was also excellent for photographers
While in Morro Bay, we drove up the coast to see the elephant seals just off Highway 1 at Piedras Blancas. There were hundreds of seals on the beach. I understand they come to this beach each year to give birth…It was something to see. The secluded beach is just south of the lighthouse. The elephant seals started coming there in 1990, I am told. I was so delighted to view them from a nearby walkway.
Another highlight of the area, were the butterflies….They winter in Pismo Beach, just South of Morro Bay…Wow! They actually looked like leaves on some of the trees….It was something else…So, if you are in the area, be sure to check out the above sites…They are great places for wildlife viewing, photography and just being outside to enjoy the beauty…
Just some thoughts for you today….
I love seals!
