My Flickr friend, Ed Kindle posted some fantastic fireworks photos the other day on flickr. I was amazed at the sharpness and clarity in his photos, and asked him how he did it. (I haven’t had much luck with firework photography in the past.) He wrote back with the following information:
~ Tripod – Cable release.
~ F5.6 or F8
~ Wide angle lens
~Focus set to manual – focus to infinity and then bring it back just ever so slightly.
~ Set shutter speed to bulb
~ When you see shot fired, press open shutter, hold open for 2 or 3 bursts then release.
Well on the Fourth of July, I gave it a try. Here are a few result…I know I need to work on this a bit more, but I at least I’m on the right track, I think, and want to share this information with you.
Sharing photography tricks and learning from each other is a great thing and I appreciate the help along the way! Thank you, Ed and my other photography friends as well. I appreciate you!
