If you are traveling in the Sedona, Arizona area, you might find stopping at Montezuma’s Castle interesting. The Castle is built high into the cliff and has multi stories of limestone dwellings. How the people got the idea to build in this spot, and to carried out building these structures is amazing. I understand they had ladders that took them up to their homes on the cliff.
These cliff dwellings were occupied by the Sinagua tribe between the 12th and 14th centuries. Chief Montezuma came after this time. I really don’t know why it is called Montezuma’s Castle, because I do not think he lived there at all….interesting….
I think about how they lived back then, and how we live today. There is quite a comparison. I have to admit, I love my nice warm bed, and the refrigerator that keeps my food cold. I love walking into my home from the garage, and not having to climb up ladders to go into the front door. We sometimes take things for granted…It was good to see the way things were centuries ago, and to think about the good things we have now. I bet they had a nice view up on the side of the mountains, and it must have been beautiful to watch the hawks and eagles fly by or to watch the sunsets and/or sunrises each day. Progress has its advantages and disadvantages that is for sure. As for me,
No thank you, to living in the cave dwellings, but they were fun to photograph.
