Being a teacher for many years and teaching first grade, I was so surprised the other day when one of my students came up to me and gave me a compliment. To tell you the truth, I barely recognized her because she is now in college and I taught her when she was in first grade. The beautiful young lady standing in front of me with stars in her eyes was Megan from my frist grade class many moons ago. There she was all grown up. I said, “Megan, is that you?” She said “Yes.” and gave me a hug. I asked her where she was going to school and what was she majoring in? She said, “Mrs. Cunningham, I am studying to be a teacher just like you. You inspired me to become a teacher, because your class was so fun.” Oh my, my heart almost jumped out of my skin. I was so pleased to hear that….What a gift she shared with me.
Today, I give thanks for Megan and the many students that I taught. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to watch them grow and to help them along the way. So on this Thanksgiving Day, I give thanks for my students. I learned a lot from them as well! May we keep on learning….
The attached photo is called Hearts, because I saw hearts on the vine instead of leaves….This photo reminded me of my many students I taught through out the years….We are still connected. Happy Thanksgiving!
