The other day the beautiful swallowtail butterfly came for a visit in my lantana flower garden. The butterfly was in all his or her glory. The graceful entrance and flight around the garden held my attention for a while, Then, I brought my long lens out and tried to capture the moment. What joy to see the beauty and to capture a bit of it in my camera. It was a happy day and I give thanks for it.

Hope you will catch sight of something beautiful today and hold it close to your heart. We need beauty to focus on in these trying times of ours.

Take care readers and hope you have a nice day!

Nature photography is amazing and to share the experience with other likeminded friends is amazing. When I look though my camera lens and see the beauty that surrounds us, I can forget about everything else going on in the world. In that moment I can experience the joy and beauty of our good earth. Do not ever take nature for granted. It is one of our greatest gifts given to us in this lifetime of ours.

That is all I have to say about that!

Have a good day!

On a trip to Blue Cypress Lake, FL, we had the good fortune to see a Barred Owl in a tree.

The bird had a sleepy look but was very alert noticing our where abouts at all times. She/He kept an eye on us. We were respectful and for a short time we just enjoyed each other’s company.

After a few minutes, our time together was over, and we went back to separate lives. It was OK.

The butterflies flitted here and there from flower to flower.  The sun was shinning and the day was cool.  As all this was happening the cardinal stood by silently gazing at the action with little reaction at all.

As I sit here at my computer, the reality of the corona virus settles more deeply in to my life.  A neighbor’s daughter has a confirmed case, so it is hitting our neighborhood and the worst is yet to come I am afraid to say.

So, we will try our best to avoid social contact and stay home as much as possible. The reality is that we all will be exposed eventually.  We will hope for the best outcome and the safety of our families and friends.

On a more upbeat note, this isolation period has given me time to write a blog and share some beautiful places in Florida that I have had the good fortune to visit earlier in the year.  I will share a few spots with you.

This is Blue Cypress Lake.  There are many birds and old Florida beauty there.  I was thrilled to visit and go with “Steve” our local guide for the day.

So Many Egrets

Another place I visited for photography was Joe Overstreet Landing.  We again went out in a small boat to look for wildlife and birds but it was just pretty walking around the landing.

The Snail Kites had migrated to the area, so that was a special treat to see as well.067A6620

Of course closer to home was Merritt  Island which is just down the road from us and usually we can find something to shoot. A few days this winter, we really lucked out and saw an eagle praying ( Probably preening ) and an owl with chick nesting.

Hopefully, there will be more fun shoots in the future.  It is always so fun to get outside and enjoy the views.

Take care everyone, and BE SAFE!

Balancing Turtle.....

When I took this photo recently, I couldn’t believe how the turtle got into this balancing position and how he stayed there, so balanced in every way. I also, wondered if he was stuck there, but my husband assured me that he could slide right back into the water when ever he wanted to. He said that the turtle was sunning himself..

I thought about our lives and how we try to balance this and that. Sometimes, I wish I could balance half as good as this turtle, although it doesn’t look very easy or relaxing to me. Funny how nature makes us think of this and that….

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it. Life is a beauty, admire it. Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise, fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle, accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life is an adventure, dare it. Life is luck, make it. Life is life, fight for it.

“Wealth consists not in having great possessions, but in having few wants.”

Esther De Waal, Seeking God, The way of St Benedict

I think she has a point!  Her words make sence to me and I appreciate her way of thinking.

Have a good day.

After visiting the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California, words of my Dad haunted me.  He said that there are bigger fish in the sea than have ever been caught. His words became “food for thought” for me as I relived the aquarium day via my photos.  Yes, there are big fish out there that we can actually see, but take it to the next step.  Think about the big fish that we can not see or will not see.  They are still there.

If you take those words and relate the big fish to big experiences, challenges, or whatever in our lives;  his words help me to realize that there is always something bigger out there to face or actualized in life.   Our successes or problems may be small to what is out there in the sea of life…..I didn’t mean to anchor you down with heavy thought today, but I hope to provide you with  “food for thought”…Ha!  Have a great day.
